Chapter Twenty-One

Lindon

Lee seems a little off to me. Most likely, it has to do with him about to see his father again, but he is looking at me strangely. I wonder if it is his doubts about Cherry and I joining him. He is a good friend, but he worries about us when he should focus on himself right now.

I leave him alone so he can think and not to pry. Whatever is bothering him, it needs to wait until we are done with this.

Cherry speaks with Jasper for some time before she joins me. She smiles, and we take to the sky. Soaring in the air, we don’t feel the weight of our wings like we do when on land. It gives us a chance to conserve our energy and to see the area from above.

“That must be the Star Kingdom,” I point off in the distance seeing a black structure in the middle of nowhere.

“It must be huge if we can see from this distance,” Cherry says. “What do you think it will be like once inside?”

“Listen, Cherry, Lee is very concerned about you being here,” I tell her sincerely. “I know you are powerful and can take care of yourself but try to keep it under wraps and not call attention to yourself. He needs not to show how deeply he feels for you right now. Not until after he takes his crown.”

“I know we can’t show our feelings for now. I’m prepared for this,” she assures me.

We fly on ahead and check out the kingdom from high above. Most likely, people below see us if they look up, but we stay well out of range of any fireballs that might come flying our way.

The kingdom is massive, maybe even more so than Clearwater. The castle is dead center, and they have structured gigantic walls in a circle around the kingdom. They lay compact houses out in sections, and there looks to be a huge market all along the front where the primary gate is.

What is so surprising to me is that it looks nothing like it outside the walls. There are trees and water fountains all over the place. What I don’t see is a field for crops, a hospital, or a storage yard—just houses, a market, and the castle in the middle.

We join Lee and the others as they become closer. We don’t pull in our wings, as we want them to show. We walk behind Lee, as he leads us all to the massive doors in front, where he stops a reasonable distance back.

Ryan walks past us and joins Lee for a moment, and then he crosses a small bridge and goes to a lower door to the side. It opens for him, and he disappears inside. We then wait for what seems like half an hour or more. A magnificent clicking sound begins, and the massive doors open from the top.

Lee turns to us and looks at Cherry. “Stay in line with the gate.
